Manifesto for the Conservation of the Tanoé Swamps Forest

An exceptional forest

In addition to its exceptional primate fauna (see one of the latest refuges for critically endangered monkey species), the flora of the Tanoé Swamps Forest is particularly rich. A preliminary inventory of that flora revealed the presence of 19 plant species endemic to West Africa, 15 species endemic to the Upper Guinea, and 13 species mentioned on the red list of IUCN.

During a workshop aimed at identifying Priority Conservation Sites in West Africa, the Tanoé Swamps forest was identified in 1999 as belonging to a larger area characterized by an exceptional biological richness and considered as a top priority site for the conservation of mammals, birds and wetlands.
